I Waited for the Rainbow to Melt in My Eyes

Just like that - a rainbow in my eyes

To cover the hypocrisy of some veiled ladies in the pew

Not at 42nd West but somewhere East

The so-called piety wrapped in mini-skirts and rosary beads

Like a roaring lion waiting for its prey

A rainbow, too, to light the dark alleys of some New York streets

Where some homeless souls find their nest to sleep

And some sweet painted lips now covered with smoke

And some weary footsteps find comfort and ease.

I waited for the rainbow to melt in my eyes

To cover the blurring vision of a fading memory

If I could only bring that magic bottle from afar

And seal the rainbow and the stars.

But they're gone...
