Of Kites, Rosaries and Winter Coats
They said life becomes complicated when you grow older
As if a child's world is only soap bubbles, kites and burger
Maybe yes, because as days become months and years
You get confused of acquaintances and friends
Who to believe in, who to treat from a distance.
And when one gets bigger and farther from home
The less time you remember Mothers' Day or Fathers' Day
The more excuse you will have when you see your work
And sometimes a rose smells like any other flower.
You forget the time you spent watering the backyard garden
You forget that rosary beads are not just meant for your side pockets
And one day, while looking at the mirror, if you take the time,
You will just see yourself not getting younger, not getting healthier.
The now just becomes a split second preparing for the next day
And so on and so forth, and so on and so forth
Then you look back and lost the chance to stay in the here and now
Because every second was always meant for the coming day.
And so winter comes and you get your winter coat
Or maybe the rains start pouring and you cover your tired body
And the wind becomes much colder and unbearable
Remember the kites and the years past, they are still there.
The past is always there, waiting for you to come back…
